The people debate a minor point of the Law. They do not see what God demands. God requires justice against the oppressors and mercy for the poor. Zechariah delivers God’s words, against the people’s focus on details and not what God demands.

The word of the LORD comes to Zechariah. Silver and Gold are used to make a Crown, worn by Joshua the High Priest. Here Joshua stands in the place of Jesus, as High Priest. Jesus is portrayed as the Branch. Zechariah speaks of the Temple, and those far away coming to help build the Temple of God. The Temple of God spoken of here is both the Temple in Jerusalem but also His church.
